GED Testing and Verifications

Passing the GED Exam may require some preparation on your part. The State Education Agency funds adult education programs that offer free or low cost GED preparation classes.

Tips for Preparing for the GED® Exam

• Make sure you know in advance the best way to get to the testing center on time on the day of the test.
• Get a good night's sleep before your test day.
• Plan to arrive at the testing site about 10 minutes early to allow for any last-minute changes or delays and to clear security scan.
• Make sure you have the following essential items with you on test day:
–Application form receipt
–Current photo identification


During the GED Exam, you will NOT be able to keep the following items at your seat:
Purses, knapsacks, tote bags, pagers, cell phones, textbooks, notebooks, jackets, coats or hats and other nonessential items  Lockers are available for fifty cents per use and require US quarters (bring a supply of quarters with you as the Testing Center has no cash/change on hand).

Tips for Taking the GED Exam

• Follow the instructions given by the GED
Examiner.
• Read all directions and questions carefully
and completely to ensure that you understand
what you are expected to do to answer each
question.
• Pick the single best answer.
• Follow the test directions for filling in the
answer sheet. Mark only one answer space for each question. Multiple answers will be scored as incorrect.
• Answer every question. You will not be
penalized for wrong answers.


Unless otherwise noted, GED Exams are held at the GED Testing Center located at the One Judiciary Square, 441 Fourth Street NW, Suite 370N. Exact addendum locations will be given to each applicant at the time of registration when necessary.  Exam dates are subject to change.

REGISTRATION IS MANDATORY and can only be done in the GED Testing Center. Payment is expected at the time of registration in the form of a money order or business check made payable to "DC GED Testing and Verifications". Fees are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Effective for all candidates sitting for the GED after January 1, 2007:

All prospective candidates wishing to register for the GED Examination must present evidence of the following:

Must be eighteen* years of age and not enrolled in a traditional educational program for the previous six months;

Must provide proof of DC residence;

Must present at the time of registration a valid, government-issued, photo ID;

Must present at the time of each examination, and part thereof, a valid, government issued, photo ID; and,

Must provide documentation of having passed the 2002 Edition of the GED Official Practice Test with a cumulative score of minimally 2250 and no individual test score(s) of less than 410.

*Candidates may be sixteen or seventeen years of age and meet the above requirements and provide documentation from the principal, director, or superintendent of having withdrawn from a traditional educational program six months prior to sitting for the GED; provide a notarized letter from the parent, guardian, government agency or court granting permission for the candidate to sit for the GED.

Be sure to bring a current, government-issued photo identification that lists the applicant's name, social security number, and District of Columbia address.
